The Fish River Canyon

• This is my latest adventure:
Listen:
Well here it goes. I may have a plan of sorts.
The day before I left for South Africa I stumbled on the Website of the namibian Embassy and decided to see what was involved in getting a visa. It wasn't much, and two days later I had my very own rental car (Siegfried), and the idea to make a ride out of it. I would drive from Jo‘burg to Swakopmund, a lovely charming town right by the atlantic ocean in Namibia, or at least give it a solid effort.
For the german report check out: http://blog.tapir-store.de/planet-erde-reiseberichte/11089.durch-die-wuesten-suedwestafrikas.html
• Beer, soft seats in my rental car including the milky way were cheap, and life was good.
• The road from Sesriem to Sossusvlei went right into the heart of the dunes and the scenery was breathtaking.
• Driving out of Etosha was a little complicated.I got lost a couple of times and met this pretty black maned lion. He was starring right into my camera with his yellow eyes before he flipped around and left me. It was well worth it. The shortest day in Etosha was the most beautiful day of the whole safari.
• The Trip to the Namib was truly fantastic and convinced me to burn the Lonely Planet and make my own adventure from then on.
• The Zebra Lounge, Etosha NP
• Deadvlei, a surreal place where we met more tourists than in the week before

• Michael, a nice worker from a farm in the Kalahari.
• The last 2000 Km into Namibia was a dream. I drove west from Johannesburg/ZA to Augrabies then North to drive along the border with Botswana and Namibia. I sped along at a whopping 90kmh through pristine savanna and fenced game parks.

• Beautiful springboks were grazing in the valleys, and driving beneath the highest dunes in the world was humbling. I was smiling the whole way...

• I was the entertainment for the shy villagers each day. Many said they had never seen a foreigner before...
